Marie Denise Farly / Julius (Jules) Boucher

Denise Farly was born at L'île-Dupas in about 1847 or 1848. Denise married Julius Boucher on August 9, 1864, at St-Ambroise-de-Kildare, Joliette County, Quebec. She was 17 years old when she married.

Denise's family lived in St. Cuthbert after she was 4 years old. She had at least 8 siblings younger than herself, so she probably worked hard at home helping her mother take care of the house and children. She gained lots of experience taking care of babies.

Denise and Jules had 16 children, 4 of whom died. Their eldest child was Joseph Ambroise (Joseph), who is our greatgrandfather, who was born on August 8, 1865. Then on November 22, 1866, Magloir was born. He lived only 9 months. Joseph Israel (Israel) was born on April 19, 1868. Joseph Napoleon was born on September 4, 1869 but only lived 11 months. Marie Louise Lumina was born on December 14,1870. She lived to at least 11 years of age because she is listed in the 1881 census. Joseph Ildorique (Ulric) was born on January 23, 1872. Marie Mathilde was born on September 3, 1874. Joseph Joachim Zenon (Zenon) was born on October 17, 1876. Marie Elizabeth Pamela was born on January 19, 1878 but she only lived 7 months. Marie Ann Pamela (Mary Anne) was born on July 2, 1879, Marie Regina (Regina) was born on January 10, 1881, Rose Delima Orifide (Delima) was born on April 11, 1882, Pamela was born on November 16, 1883, Edmond was born on January 15, 1885, Wilfred Arthur was born on May 14, 1886, and Rene was born on May 3, 1889.

In the 1861 Canadian Census, Jules was 18 and living with his mother, Charlotte Roi, and his two brothers, Louis (14) and Azarie (10).

In the 1971 Canadian Census, Jules and Denise were living at St-Gabriel, Berthier, and their three children were Joseph (5), Israel (3), and Marie Louise (4 months).

In the 1881 Canada Census, the family were living at St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, and they had 8 children listed, Joseph (15), Israel (12), Marie Louise (10), Ulric (9), Mathilda (6), Zenon (4), Mariane (2) and Regina (3 months). Denise's name was spelled Denise Farlie.

Denise Farly as her great granddaughter and my mother, Anita, remembered her.

She was a sweet, tiny women and only spoke French. When I look at a photo of an older Denise, I can see my mother's face. I never realized who my mother took after. Anita had hazel eyes, so unlike her mother and her sister, Blanche, who had Julius's very dark brown eyes. However, my mother inherited the prodigious Boerjan nose from her father, which Blanche also inherited, and Denise had a small nose.
